June through September for warm, sunny days and reliably open roads and campgrounds. Wildflowers and wildlife are abundant, and all trails are accessible.
Recommended Vehicle
Campervan is ideal—ample camping options and easily navigable roads. Avoid oversized RVs for simpler navigation of mountain passes and parking in small towns.
Charging & Gas Stations
Gas stations are frequent until rural Montana; fill up in Spokane, Coeur d'Alene, and Libby before entering Glacier.
Cell Coverage
Generally good until far western Montana and inside Glacier National Park, where coverage is limited. Download offline maps and park info in advance.
Estimated Cost
Estimated $175–$250 per day for a family. Includes mid-range campground fees ($30–$70/night), groceries, occasional restaurant stops, and fuel. Park entry fees are extra.
Parking Information
Dedicated parking and RV spaces at most camping areas; busy weekends may require early arrival at popular stops.
Accommodation
Mix of reservable national/state park campgrounds and a few family-friendly private RV parks. Make summer bookings early, especially for Glacier and Lake Wenatchee.
Road Conditions
Mountain roads are in good condition but can be winding in sections. Summer driving is generally dry; check for occasional road construction. Watch for slower traffic in the mountains and wildlife crossings in the evening.
